What began as a contemporary single-storey extension near Chard, Somerset, developed into a much larger project involving extensive ground-floor renovations and a complete transformation of the surrounding outdoor spaces.
HM Construction was initially involved in providing design support and value engineering for a modern extension, working closely with the homeowners to develop a practical design that met their requirements.
The extension was constructed using a steel portal frame with a warm flat roof and high-performance Reynaers sliding doors across all three sides. This created a bright, open living space with direct access to the surrounding gardens. Underfloor heating was also installed and connected to the property's existing central heating system.
As construction began, the scope of the project expanded to include renovations across almost the entire ground floor. This involved installing new tiled flooring and creating an additional side entrance to provide improved access to the outdoor swimming pool terrace.
Attention then turned to the landscaping, which the homeowners had been considering for several years. Having previously explored designs without finding the right solution, HM Construction introduced a specialist garden designer who developed a scheme that met their vision for the space.
The landscaping included extensive limestone patios and terraces, connected by hoggin pathways to create a natural flow between the different outdoor areas. A water feature and bespoke reflecting pool were also incorporated into the design.
What started as a single-storey extension ultimately became a comprehensive renovation and landscaping project, bringing together the home's interior and outdoor spaces as part of a coordinated transformation.
