The Stone Country House

Bespoke Period Property Renovation

HM Construction was appointed to undertake a comprehensive renovation and reconstruction of an existing property, transforming the building into a peaceful, carefully considered home that combines traditional craftsmanship with modern comfort.

Working alongside Orme Architecture, the project involved extensive structural alterations and a complete interior transformation. The design focused on creating a calm and welcoming living environment while respecting the character and original fabric of the building.

Before the interior work could begin, significant structural renovations were required. Large sections of the external stone and masonry walls were rebuilt, alongside the installation of a new insulated ground-floor slab incorporating underfloor heating.

The reconstruction also included creating a new first-floor layout and constructing a traditional cut timber roof, finished with natural slate to complement the property's existing character.

Considerable attention was given to the materials used throughout the renovation. Breathable wood-fibre insulation boards and traditional lime plaster were incorporated to support the performance of the building's original fabric, ensuring the modern improvements remained compatible with its traditional construction.

An air source heat pump was also installed to provide heating and hot water, introducing a modern, energy-efficient heating system alongside the property's extensive structural upgrades.

As the project progressed into the interior fit-out, the focus shifted towards the finer details. Working closely with the client's design vision, HM Construction incorporated a range of high-quality bespoke finishes, with careful attention given to the craftsmanship and overall quality of the completed interiors.

The finished renovation brings together substantial structural reconstruction, traditional building techniques and carefully selected contemporary features, creating a distinctive home that balances its original character with the requirements of modern living.
