Historic Cottage Renovation & Oak Frame Extension

Working alongside local architects REdsgn, HM Construction was appointed to undertake the extension and comprehensive renovation of one of the oldest properties in a village near North Curry, Somerset.

The project involved transforming an existing historic home into a more practical and comfortable living space, while carefully considering the character and traditional construction of the original building.

An important consideration from the outset was the property's location. With the front of the house facing a busy through road, site access and construction logistics needed to be carefully planned to minimise disruption and accommodate the challenges of working within a restricted space.

To reduce the need for heavy lifting equipment, HM Construction constructed the green oak extension on-site. This approach helped overcome the access limitations while incorporating traditional oak framing into the property's updated design.

The extension formed part of a wider renovation, with the aim of creating a more cohesive and functional home. Working with the architect's design, the project sought to improve the existing layout and bring greater purpose to a property that had developed over time.

The completed renovation demonstrates how thoughtful architectural design and traditional construction methods can work together to transform an older property, preserving its distinctive character while making it better suited to modern living.
